Shipping policy
General Information
Products are shipped from Modern Nursery’s fulfillment center by UPS or USPS, or directly from the manufacturer. Products shipped directly from our suppliers may take longer to reach you, and items on your order may arrive separately if shipped from multiple locations.
*Please note that individual brand/ manufacturers will hold orders so that multiple items ship together. In this case, be prepared for items to ship together at the latest estimated ship date on your order.
Estimated ship dates are provided on every product page, so that you can manage expectations for your delivery! Many of our products ship directly from the manufacturer. The dates provided are our best estimate as to when your order will be dispatched, and are not guaranteed.
Longer lead times may be based on backorder dates or custom order production times, and may be subject to change. Should your estimated ship date change, we will contact you via email with an update.
Please note that you are responsible for providing all the necessary shipping information for the order to be delivered successfully. In case the carrier is unable to perform delivery due to an incomplete shipping address, the shipment will be returned to sender and you will be refunded for your order, minus the actual shipping charges both ways and a 10% restocking fee.
If your order ships small parcel ground, it can take from roughly 1-7 days to reach you once it ships in the lower continental US, barring any delays from ground carriers. If it ships via freight carrier, it can take roughly 2-4 weeks to reach you once it ships, and this is just an estimate. If you aren't sure whether your order will ship via freight carrier or small parcel ground, please reach out and ask and we'd be glad to advise so you can be prepared!
No parcel shipments require signature upon delivery unless otherwise requested, which will come at an additional charge. If you need your order to ship with signature required, please reach out to us before placing it to confirm a quote for the additional service and ensure all details are put in place before your order ships.
Delivery appointments cannot be scheduled or requested for parcel shipments. If you need your order to be delivered on a specific date, please reach out to us and request a freight shipment quote, which will entail a scheduled delivery appointment. Small parcel carriers cannot implement any special delivery instructions (such as delivery appointments or gate codes for gated communities) and will either be dropped off wherever your parcel shipments are normally delivered or require a shipping upgrade to an in-home delivery which can accommodate those requests. This needs to be arranged before your order is shipped. Any subsequent charges or failure to accept your package will be deducted from your refund per our Refused Packages Policy.
Please monitor the tracking link you receive via email for an estimated delivery date and ensure the package is brought inside as soon as possible. All missing package claims must be submitted within 24 hours of the delivery, after which the carrier will perform an 8-10 business days investigation to attempt to locate the package before we can issue a replacement.
Furniture Shipments
Once you place a furniture order with us, you will receive an email with instructions on how to inspect and receive your shipment. Please review it carefully. Any damage to containers or contents must be noted with the freight carrier at the time of delivery. Please inspect your furniture order thoroughly within 24 hours of delivery and let us know if anything is damaged or defective. In the event of damage, please retain all packaging as well.
Delivery Surcharges & White Glove Delivery
Some larger or heavy furniture products, as well as some items shipping directly from the manufacturer, will require a shipping surcharge, which will be noted at the checkout.
Most large furniture products will ship via freight carrier, which includes standard curbside delivery. For standard delivery, please make arrangements to have the items brought into your home.
Upgraded delivery options exist for furniture shipped via freight carrier for an additional fee.
We will be glad to provide a quote for the following options:
- Delivery to a Room of Choice
- White Glove delivery, which includes delivery to the room of choice, unpacking of furniture, and removal of packaging materials
- White Glove plus Furniture Assembly

Please note that by selecting an upgraded delivery service, Modern Nursery may only arrange one single delivery once all the items on your order become available. We can arrange a second shipment at a cost. Please contact us if this is something you would like to do.
Due to Covid restrictions, some local delivery agents are not allowed to perform white glove delivery. If this applies to your area, we will refund the $50 white glove fee and the remaining delivery surcharge will be left on your order to cover threshold delivery. On occasion, we are not notified that a carrier is unable to offer white glove until after the delivery is made. We take every step to make sure we are notified in advance so that we may help you to prepare, but sometimes the carrier fails to do their part. In that case, please reach out to us immediately and we will gladly refund the $50 white glove fee.
Once your order arrives to the carrier's delivery terminal closest to you, you will receive a call from them to schedule a delivery appointment. If the carrier is unable to reach you within 7 days of the initial contact attempt, the shipment will be returned to sender and you will be refunded for your order, minus the actual shipping charges both ways and a 10% restocking fee.
Every missed delivery appointment will be charged an additional $150.00. In that case, your shipment will be held with the carrier until that payment is received. If the fee is not paid within 5 days of the original delivery appointment, the shipment will be returned to sender and you will be refunded for your order, minus the actual shipping charges both ways, a $150.00 missed appointment fee and a 10% restocking fee.
All deliveries must be completed within 15 days of your shipment reaching the final mile terminal in your town. If you do not set up an appointment in that timeframe, storage fees will begin to apply starting on day 16. All storage fees must be collected prior to the shipment being delivered to you.
Shipping to APO Addresses and Overseas United States Territories
Orders shipped outside the contiguous U.S. states will have an additional surcharge which will vary per product. If we receive an order that requires additional shipping charges, we will contact you with a quote after receiving your order. In the event of a delay, we will notify you by email. Please make sure the email address you provide upon ordering is the best way to contact you.
Please note that all orders going to a US address outside of contiguous states will be shipped via USPS. Once the order ships, it may take at least 10 weeks for it to arrive, and it might not be trackable once the package leaves the continental US. Please note that we are unable to issue a refund or send a replacement for a potentially lost untrackable order until USPS declares it as missing and pays the lost package claim. Please make sure to place your order far in advance of anticipated delivery as these shipments can be substantially delayed and we cannot guarantee arrival before due dates, as USPS will not guarantee shipping timelines.
International Shipping
Please contact us for international shipping requests. Some brands are excluded from shipping outside the U.S. To verify eligibility for shipping abroad, please drop us a line at service@modernnursery.com with your full address, and let us know what products you are shopping for. Most shipping quotes are returned the same business day. Please note that duties and custom fees are decided at your country's border and we are unable to provide estimates for those charges.
Gift Messages
If your order is being shipped directly from the manufacturer, unfortunately we cannot guarantee that they will be able to enclose a gift message. However, we are always happy to send the recipient an e-gift message once the order is on its way to them! Just make sure to check the "Is this a gift?" box in your cart and leave us their email address, and we will take care of it for you.
Expedited Shipping
Expedited shipping fees for applicable items start at $28.95 and may vary depending on the size and weight of the package. If additional funds are needed, we will reach out to request them, and if payment is not made, your fee will be refunded to the original form of purchase and your order will be shipped via standard shipping.
Expedited shipping fees for orders that have been shipped and/or delivered are non-refundable and arrival time is not guaranteed. Modern Nursery is not responsible for any transit delays and if your package arrives later than originally estimated, no shipping fees will be refunded.
Freight furniture shipments cannot be expedited and will take roughly 2-4 weeks to be completed.
Address Changes
Please double check the shipping address you've entered on your order confirmation. All address changes must be arranged before the order is shipped.
If the order is already in transit, address changes cannot be guaranteed and may come at a fee the carrier requires. The address change fee must be collected before the request goes through so time is of the essence; if customer is late remitting payment, the request may be delayed and it may be too late to update the address.
If an order has been delivered, Modern Nursery cannot assist with shipping it to a different address or reimbursing any shipping fees. Customer is responsible for getting the item to their desired shipping address.
