2016 is coming to a close, but we’re so looking forward to 2017! Let’s celebrate with some quality family time and countdown to the new year with some fun activities and crafts!
The Countdown Has Begun
Make New Years Eve a fun and interactive event for your kids from start to finish. A simple, easy, and fun way to countdown to midnight is using "Countdown Bags." Take some paper bags then write the hours counting down to midnight on them. In each bag place a little clue on what you'll be doing for that hour.
Ready, Set, Go!
Prepping For 2017
No celebration is complete without decorations and party favors! Start the celebration by making your own! Your kids will love decorating their own festive party hat or crown. Follow the link here for printables
Food always brings people together and perfect for celebrations! These firework cookies are a perfect little treat to make and to eat. Getting kids involved in the kitchen creates a closer bond and they'll have a ton of fun making a little mess.
What you’ll need:
-Your favorite cookie mix
-Tooth picks (optional)
An explosion of yumminess.
B-I-N-G-O to 2017
- Make cookies accordingly. Optional: cut out into fun star shapes.
- Divide the icing into multiple bowls and create different colors in each bowl.
- Now, the fun part! Once the cookies have cooled off have the kiddos decorate the cookies! Tip: Dollop different colored icing in the middle and use a toothpick to swirl or blast outwards to create 'fireworks'.
A great activity to pass the time and exercise their noggin's is a good-ole-game of Bingo! You can get a cute NYE Bingo printable here
Or snack time. Kids can get a little fussy if they don’t have something in their tummies, and we don’t want to give them more sugar on top of the firework cookies. Let’s continue the fun with mini pizzas! They’ll become their own chef and it's a great way to sneak in veggies. Here’s what you’ll need:
-Pre-made pizza dough
First you’ll need to cut out the pizza dough into small individual sizes. Invite the kids to put sauce and any toppings they want on their pizza! Pop in the oven for 10 minutes and you’ve got the perfect little pizza pie.
Take some down time with your kids. Have them reflect on all the good things that happened in 2016 and ask them what their goals for 2017 are, then them write it down (or you write it down) and place it in a box. When 2018 rolls around, bring it back out and ask if they feel like they’ve achieved what they wrote.
It’s almost midnight! Do you have things to celebrate with? No? No worries, we’ve got you covered. Let’s celebrate with some pom-pom poppers! These are fun to make and don’t leave a hard-to-clean mess like confetti or glitter. Let’s get started.
What you’ll need:
-a paper cup
-optional: tape or an elastic band.
